Lydia Martha Geiger, 92, of Wyoming, MI passed away on February 23, 2014 at Maple Creek Assisted Living in Grand Rapids, MI.
She was born on March 15, 1921 to Rev. F.W. and Pauline (Gerken) Behrmann in The Grove, TX. On January 1, 1944 Lydia married Richard Geiger who predeceased her.
She worked as secretary at St. John Lutheran Church 25 years retiring in 1983.
Lydia was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, its Ladies Aid Society, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the Altar Guild, the Stephen Ministry, served on the Social Welfare Board and sang in the Senior Choir. She was also a Life member of the VFW 3360 Ladies Auxiliary.
Lydia is survived by her daughter Susan (Alva) Samsell of Wyoming, MI:, daughter Janet Stockmeister of Jackson, OH; son, R. Thomas (Jeanne) Geiger of Jackson, OH; 9 grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren; brother Rev. Fred Behrmann Jr. of Pleasant Hill, CA; sister Pauline Groerich of Denver, CO; sister-in-law Marjorie Seifert of Defiance, OH; and sister-in-law Donna Duensing of El Cerrito, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Norman & Victor Behrmann; sisters Ruth Behrmann in infancy, Esther Bunsold, & Alma Pilz; and daughter-in-law Peggy Geiger.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance, with Rev. Donald L Luhring officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, and Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. John Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Hour, St. John Lutheran Scholarship Fund, or to the Alzheimer's Association.
