Linda Poorman Behringer, age 77, of Defiance, Ohio, died Sunday, August 25, 2013.
Linda was born on March 8, 1936 to Joseph & Laverne (Frye) Poorman in Bellaire, Ohio.
Linda is survived by her three children and six grandchildren: Margaret (Meg) Behringer Maloney, of Charlotte, NC, an attorney, and her husband John, and their daughters Miriam, 19, a freshman at Rhodes College in Memphis, and Hannah, 16, a student at the San Francisco School of Ballet in San Francisco who attends college online through Brigham Young University; Dr. David R. Behringer of Defiance, Ohio, an orthodontist, his wife Amy, and their children Connor, 19, a freshman at the Lima Branch of Ohio State, and Alexa, 17, a senior at Tinora High School; and Douglas J. Behringer, of Columbus, Ohio, an attorney, and his wife, Faith, and their twin sons, Cody and Christian. Also surviving her are her sister, Peggy Poorman Jordan and her husband Bill Jordan, and her niece and nephews and their families, all in Altanta and the surrounding areas, including the Jeff Jordan, Greg Jordan, Becky Jordan Bourne, and Andy Jordan families. Linda also loved her sister-in-law Marylou Behringer Osborne and her Behringer niece and nephews and their families, John Behringer, Brenda Behringer Brinkman, Steve Behringer, and Tony Behringer. Preceding her in death were her parents.
Linda attended Ohio State University. She then worked as a teacher in Defiance, Ohio, until she stopped working to raise her family. She later moved to Charlevoix, Michigan where she was a decorative painter and managing partner of "Brown Bag Originals," which sold original works of over 150 artisians. She obtained a bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University and became the Director of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program for two Michigan counties before she worked as the District Manager of the Northern Service office of Junior Achievement of the Michigan Great Lakes, Inc. She then moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to work as a librarian in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools for several years before returning to Ohio.
Linda was known for her kindness and generosity, sense of humor, artistic talents and abilities as a seamstress. She was an avid reader and continued to play bridge, spider solitaire, and complete daily crossword puzzles until shortly before her death. Linda has asked her family to spread her ashes in her beloved Northern Michigan. She will be missed by those who loved her.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance with Rev. Joshua Schmidt officiating. Calling will be held at the church from 9 until the time of services. A luncheon will be served at the church following the memorial service.
The family asks that contributions be made to the CHP Defiance Area In Patient Hospice Center or to the Hiawatha Behavioral Health in lieu of flowers.
