Obituary

Deacon Lesley Stanton, Sr. Born March 20, 1948 in Panola, Alabama to Guss and Ruby Stanton. He was baptized at an early age and attended St. John Baptist Church in he community. Affectionately known as "Les", he was a graduate of the 1966 class of North Sumter High School in Panola. "Les" served his country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam while stationed at Ft. Knox, Kentucky from January 26, 1968 until January 23, 1970, after which he was honorably discharged. He met and married Diane Richard on October 9, 1982 and they recommitted themselves to each other on May 18, 2014. After 41 years of service, he retired from General Motors on January 1, 2005. He went home to be with the Master on Sunday, April 18, 2015 at 4:00 am after a lengthy illness. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Diane Stanton, 6 Children: Antwan Stanton, Lesley Stanton Jr., Maurice Stanton, Dominique Stanton, Tina Gibbs, Isaac Gibbs, Jr., 14 Grandchildren, 1 Great-Grandchild, Brothers:  Ellis Stanton, Augusta (Betty) Stanton, Henry (Gloria) Stanton, Chicago, IL, Otis (Josephine) Stanton, Ivory (Ann) Stanton, Saginaw, Michigan, Fred Stanton of Panola, Alabama, Sisters: Virginia (Plummer, Sr.) Newton, Panola, Alabama, Tency Hill, Chicago, Illinois, Annie Peoples, Flint, Michigan, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Preceding him in death were his parents, Guss and Ruby Stanton, an infant son, Lesley Stanton, Jr., a daughter, Deshawn Davis, and a brother, Clyde Stanton. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 24, 2015 at 11:00 am at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 1544 Ottawa Avenue, Defiance, Ohio. Entrusted to Schaffer Funeral Home, 529 Jefferson Avenue, Defiance, Ohio. Homegoing Service will be held Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 11:00 am with family hour at 10:00 am at Candlelight Baptist Church, 3305 Ruckle Street, Saginaw, Michigan. Entrusted to Evans & Browne Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Saginaw, Michigan.
