LeRoy W. Copsey, 90, of Defiance, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at his son's residence in Jewell with his family by his side. He was born on July 10, 1927 to Albert and Emma (Kiest) Copsey in Paulding County, Ohio. On December 24, 1949 he married Rita (Osborn) Copsey, who he shared 64 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on March 5, 2013. LeRoy worked at General Motors Powertrain for over 38 years. He was a life long farmer, and he enjoyed NASCAR and was a huge fan of Jimmy Johnson. Spending time with his family was always a priority. LeRoy will be greatly missed by his family and by many good friends that loved him.
LeRoy is survived by his son, Dan (Linda) Copsey of Jewell, daughter, Susan (Fred) Copsey-Pearce of Delaware, OH, grandchildren; Nathan (Andrea) Copsey, Defiance, Austin Copsey, Defiance, and Emma Copsey-Pearce, Westerville, Ohio step-grandchildren; Brenda (Paul) Cantrell, KY, Donna "Jeannie" (Perry) Mason, Continental, Ohio and Leah Stewart, Defiance. Great-grandchildren; Kenley Joyce Copsey, and Henry Alexander Glen, ten step-great-grandchildren, and twelve step great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Copsey, a son David LeRoy Copsey, brothers; Clarence Copsey and Ray Copsey, sisters; Edna Hamman, Pearl Alice Copsey, Hazel Phlipot, Martha Wolf, Iva Foreman, Ova Phlipot, Dorothy Wilson, Lois Porter, and Rosie Ann Copsey at birth, and a daughter in law, Joyce Erford Copsey. Visitation will be held from 2-5 pm, and 6-8 pm on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, and for one hour prior to services on Saturday. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Rev. Denny Hunter, and Rev. Perry Mason officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rochester Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to CHP Defiance Area Hospice Center, or Jewell Volunteer Fire Department.
