Leona A. Wright, 93, of Defiance, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. Leona was born on January 5, 1930 to the late Irel and Hester (Overmier) Ashbaugh in Delta, Ohio. She was a 1948 graduate of Defiance High School. On January 28, 1950, she married Richard W. Wright who resides in Defiance. Leona was a faithful member of the Defiance Church of the Nazarene. She proudly received the Distinguished Service Award at the church and was past president of Women's Ministries. Leona worked at The State Bank for twelve years. In her leisure time, she enjoyed cooking, baking, and her flowers. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and treasured her time spent with her family, especially with the grandchildren. Her devotion to her family was an inspiration and she will be incredibly missed. Leona is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Richard Wright of Defiance, OH, her sons, Randy (Denise) Wright,  Ronald Wright, and Jerry Wright, all of Defiance, and her daughters, Penny (Roger) Scott of Bryan, OH and Debra (Daniel) Fishpaw of Defiance. She also leaves behind ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and her brother, Jay (Diane) Ashbaugh of Woodburn IN. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Deloris Stockman. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Defiance Church of the Nazarene, 1656 Jefferson Avenue, Defiance. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral service. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, with Rev. Donald Leonard officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens.
