Leon Bevins, age 77 of Defiance, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on January 29, 1946 to Jonah Bevins and Blanch (McCoy) Roberts in Kentucky. On June 24, 1966 he married Laura B. Jude, who survives. Leon was a member of  Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Ayersville and UAW Local #211. He worked for over 32 years at General Motors until his retirement in 2000. In his leisure time he raised bunnies, ducks, chickens, cocker spaniels and coon dogs. He enjoyed flea markets, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leon was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Leon is survived by his wife of 57 years, Laura Bevins of Defiance, his daughters, Norma Lea "Shorti" Bevins and Dorrene Lynn (Curt) Beltz, all of Defiance, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, his sister, Mable Baisden of Turkey Creek, KY, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lois Bias, Alva Jean Roberts and Gail Mann, and two brothers, Franklin D. Roberts and Eddie Bevins. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2023 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Schaffer Funeral Home South, with Pastor Eric McDunnell officiating. Burial will follow the service at Ayersville Cemetery.
