Leo W. Pessefall, 85, of Defiance, passed away on December 2, 2016 at the CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance.
He was born on November 3, 1931 in Paulding County to Francis and Opal (Thrasher) Pessefall. Leo served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War. On September 4, 1952 he married Marcia Ratzlaff and she survives. He worked for Grizzley, Diehl's Inc., Kirtley Distributing, and for 19 years with The Defiance City Schools as asssitant maintenance director retiring in 1994. In 1993 a proclamation was awarded to Leo by Mayor Rita Kissner declaring March 18th as Mr. Pessefall Day. He was an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed restoring and collecting antique cars. After Retiring he and Marcia delivered meals on wheels and traveled throughout the United States. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Life Member of Defiance VFW Post #3360, life member of Defiance AmVets Post #1991, and Defiance Eagles #372.
Leo is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marcia Pessefall, sons, Dana (Carol) Pessefall, Defiance, Marc (Rose) Pessefall, Defiance, six grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter, brothers, Ed (Dorothy) Pessefall, Sherwood, Dan (Carol) Pessefall, Goshen, IN, Jim (Susi) Pessefall, Oakwood, Mike (Kim) Pessefall, Defiance, Steve (Liz) Pessefall, Paulding, sisters, Virginia (Monte) Warner, Holland, OH, Betty (Bill) Koeller, Ft. Wayne, IN and his K9 companion Sparky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charles Pessefall, and sister, Martha Begley.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 5, 2016 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. A Mass will be held Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 11 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Defiance, with Fr. Randy Giesige officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the church, CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center, or a charity of the donor's choice.
