Lawson Edward Willis, 74, of Deltona, Florida passed away on September 30, 2022.
Lawson was born in Freeburn, KY on October 6th, 1947 to Roy Willis and Nelly Dean. He married Janet Miller on February 6, 1970 who survives.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, Desert Storm, and Desert Shield and he retired as a Master Sergeant from the Army Reserves in 1999. He was proud to have served his country and was extremely patriotic! He retired from General Motors in 1998 before moving from Ohio down to Florida.
Lawson enjoyed watching old westerns, spending time with the family, listening to documentaries, and reading God's word. Lawson loved his family more than anything except his Savior. He showed God's love and grace to all he encountered. Those who knew him were blessed by his compassion and generosity of heart.
He is survived by the love of his life, Janet Willis, son, William (Lisa) Willis, and daughter, Jennifer (Michael) Sweinhagen all of Deltona, Florida. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Lauren (Anthony) James, William Willis II, Emma Sweinhagen, Abby Sweinhagen, Leanna (Jasper) Hall, and Brogan Willis. As well as his great-grandchildren Michael James, Jackson Hall, Freya Hall, and Aurora Keen-Willis. He will be also greatly missed by his siblings, Betty (Richard) Gray of Azle, TX, William (Bev) Willis of St. Joe, IN, Robert (Lima) Willis of Prestonsburg KY, RB Dean and Sue Browning both of Wayne, WV, Paul Dean of Huntington, WV, David (Wanda) Dean of Wayne, WV, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lawson is preceded in death by father, Roy Willis; mother, Nelly Dean, and siblings Tommy Willis, Joyce Desnomie, Eddie Dean; brothers in law Gary Bowling, and Troy Hall.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 10, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Schaffer Funeral Home South (Lawson-Roessner Chapel, 1753 S. Clinton St, Defiance, Ohio). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Lonnie Musgrave and John McKay officiating at the funeral home. Burial will take place following services at Riverview Memory Gardens with military rites accorded by VFW Post #3360.
