Laura  M. Kochel, 85, of Defiance, went to be with her Lord on Friday, May 18, 2018 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 2, 1932, one of seventeen children born to John and Laura (McMichaels) Babcock in Napoleon, Ohio. On December 3, 1953 she married Floyd P. Kochel, who preceded her in death in 2001. Laura liked spending time outdoors and gardening, she especially loved spending time with her family. Laura is survived by her sons, James Roth of San Diego, CA and William (Betty) Kochel, of Defiance, and daughter, Mollie (Tony) Fox of Defiance, 7 grandsons; 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson; sisters Lorna Casarez of WI and Henrietta Lassiter of AL and one brother Albert (Bonnie) Babcock of Archbold.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Floyd P. Kochel, daughter Laurel Hahn, son Charles Kochel, eight brothers and six sisters.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 9:00 - 11:00 am at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, where funeral services will be held after visitation at 11:00am with Rev. Deb Widdowson, officiating.  Burial will follow at Sherwood Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. Online condolences can be given at www.Schafferfh.com.
