Larry A. Van Brackel
Larry August Van Brackel, 80, of Defiance, passed away Monday, April 3, 2017 at Brookview Helathcare Center. He was born on February 1, 1937 in Defiance, Ohio to the late August and Martha Bernice (Bayliss) Van Brackel.
Larry was a graduate of Defiance High School class of 1955. Larry received his Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering with honors from Purdue University. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, An Engineering honorary fraternity and a member with honors of the Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Society, Purdue University. Larry served in the United States Air Force, was a past member and president of the Defiance Rotary, life time member of the Benevolent Order of Elks, life time member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Member and past President of the Ohio Coin Machine Association, member of the Fish & Game Association, past President of North West Ohio Music Association, President of A. Van Brackel and & Sons Inc., Project Engineer for General Motors.
Larry was proceeded to death by his parents, August and Martha Bernice Van Brackel and a brother Roger Van Brackel.

Larry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sue Ann (Ensign) Van Brackel of Defiance, brother Don (Donnie) Van Brackel of Coldwater, MI, daughter Elizabeth (Bernie) Bombara of Bethel Park, Pa., daughter Rebecca (Dan) Follett, son John (Tina) Van Brackel all of Defiance, Ohio. Seven grandchildren Philip Bombara of Boulder Colorado, Jonathan Bombara of Pittsburgh, Pa. Max (Darla) Glassford of Columbus, Oh. Madeline Glassford of North Canton, Oh. Mitchell Glassford of Defiance, Renae Van Brackel of Toledo, Lauren Van Brackel of Defiance, one Great Grandson, August Glassford of Columbus, Ohio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017 at St. Marys Catholic Church. Visitation will be 3-8 Wednesday in the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home with a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association or Brokkview Health Center.
