Larry A. Marckel, Sr., 73, of Defiance, passed away on Wednesday evening, December 19, 2018 at Mercy Defiance Hospital. He was born on January 13, 1945 to the late Albert and Dora (Meyers) Marckel in Defiance. In January, 1966 he proudly joined the U.S. Army National Guard. On May 25, 1974 he married Veronica (Adkins) Marckel, who resides in Defiance.

Larry was a faithful member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Defiance. He worked for over 34 1/2 years at General Motors until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of UAW Local #211 and the Retiree Club, Defiance Eagles #372, Hamilton Lake Fish & Game, and was a life member of AMVETS #1991. Larry farmed in Adams Township, and he worked for Adams township in many capacities. In addition to farming, he enjoyed fishing, boating, and especially National Tractor Pulls. Larry was a great family man, and he will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the community. Larry is survived by his loving wife of  44 years, Veronica Marckel of Defiance, son, Larry A. (Ann) Marckel, Jr. of Defiance, daughter, Vicki Marckel of Newburg, MD, three grandchildren; Colin Waisner, Reed Waisner, and Paige Marckel, and one great-grandchild, Kacey Waisner. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister at birth. Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, with an AMVETS Memorial Service scheduled for 7:00 pm. Additional visitation will be from 10-11 am on Friday prior to services at the church. A funeral service will be held at on Friday, December 28, 2018, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Burial will follow the service at Poplar Ridge Cemetery, with military graveside rites accorded by VFW #3360. Memorials are suggested to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
