Obituary

Larry Otto Joost, 67, of  Mark Center, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2015, surrounded by his family at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance, Ohio, after a 3 1/2 year battle with cancer. He was born on August 12, 1947 in Hicksville, Ohio to Lorenz H. and Gladys A. (Fittje) Joost. On March 19, 1971 he was united in marriage to Pauline "Sandy" Schlosser. Larry is survived by his loving wife Sandy Joost, son Shawn (Carol) Joost, daughters: Lynnette (Ken) Siegel, Kori Joost (Josh Garlock), Kari Joost (Ben Kramer), and seven grandsons: Michael, Austin, Jeremie, Triston, Isaac, Dean and Judd. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jean Davis, and brother Jim Joost. Larry's earlier career included owning and operating a salvage store and auction house. Larry was an auctioneer and a salesman. He found his true calling as a car sales manager. He loved helping his customers and many became lifelong friends. Larry was an avid golf enthusiast, loved boats, being at the lake, playing cards, and his furry companions, Jeter and Gilbert, but most of all he loved being with his children, grandsons, and family. Larry was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Defiance, where he served as a Stephen Minister, was on the Board of Stewardship, and was an usher. Larry was a veteran of the United States Army Reserves and served in the Ohio National Guard. He also was a life member of the AmVets Post #1991 in Defiance. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance, with Pastor Donald Luhring officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Sherwood, Ohio. Military honors will be presented by the VFW Post #5665 of Sherwood. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church in Defiance, CHP Hospice Center in Defiance, or to a charity of the donor's choice Online condolences can be given at www.Schafferfh.com.
