Larry B. "PawPaw" Engel Sr., 72, of Defiance, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014 in his home.

He was born on September 10, 1941, in Holgate, OH, the son of the late Richard and Leone (Cruey) Engel.  Larry retired as a millwright at General Motors, where he worked for 25 years.  After retirement he worked as Home Owners Friend Handyman, and the UAW Hall groundskeeper.  He also was a member of the UAW Local 211 Retirees.

Larry spent most of his free time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the apples of his eyes, and following their sporting events.  He was a loving Husband, Dad, PawPaw, and will be sadly missed by many.

Larry is survived by his wife, Charlene (Brown) Engel of Defiance, 7 children, Penny Engel of Florida, Larry Engel Jr. of Cecil OH, Joy (Robert) Growe of Florida, Jacquelyn (Daryl) Scott of Florida, Kim (Ryan) Anderson of Defiance OH, Kelly (Jerry) Feeney of Oakwood OH, Chuck (Nicole) March of Defiance OH, brothers, Kendol Engel of Florida, Roger Engel of Bryan OH, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Byron Engel, and a sister, Betty Leaders.

Visitation for Larry will be held Friday, July 25, 2014 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, and one hour (10 am – 11 am) Saturday at the church prior to services.  Services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2014, at 11:00 am in First Baptist Church, Defiance.  Burial will follow in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance.
