Kenneth L. "Kenny" Kent, 78, of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at The Laurel's of Defiance.
He was born on April 11, 1937 to Glenn and Nevah (Miller) Kent in Allen County, Ohio. Kenny was a 1956 graduate of Continental High School. In 1957 he married Clareyn (Gibbins) Kent, they later parted. In 1976 he married Karen (Kulwicki) Kent, who passed away in 1984. On February 27, 1993 he married Shelley (Buchman) Kent, who resides in Defiance.
Kenny was a member of Ayersville United Methodist Church, and was the coffee guy on the breakfast club. He worked for 28 years at the former All Star Products in Defiance. He also worked at General Motors in Defiance, and at the Oklahoma plant, retiring from there in 1993. After retirement he worked for Pinkerton Securities as a night guard at SK Hand Tool Corporation in Defiance for 12 years.
Kenny always believed in an honest days work for an honest days pay, as anyone who ever hired him in his early days as a handyman could attest to. In earlier years he did roofing for many area people, having kept count of more than 60 barns he roofed in the tri-county area. One of his greatest springtime joys was growing tomatoes. He looked forward to his next crop of tomatoes from the time the last one was picked, to the time the next crop was newly planted. Kenny will be greatly missed, as he was always a good friend to all who knew him.
Kenny is survived by his loving spouse of 22 years, Shelley Kent of Defiance, three daughters, Dr. Kimberly Hagerman of Wauseon, Stephanie Kent of McCloud, Oklahoma, and Emily Kent of Defiance, two sons, Kevin (Cheryl) Kent of Napoleon, and Matthew Kent of Defiance, one brother, Carl (Brenda) Kent of Continental, seven grandchildren and seven great-granddaughters.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Ayersville United Methodist Church in Defiance, with Rev.Clarence Dinnen officiating.
