Kathy Jean Jewell, age 71 of Defiance, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital.

She was born in Defiance, Ohio on December 29, 1954 to Dana and Ellen (Baldwin) Reed. Kathy was a 1973 graduate of Ayersville High School. On August 29, 1998 she married Earnest A. Jewell, who preceded her in death on March 5, 2015.

Kathy proudly earned her Associate's degree and worked as a social worker in the Defiance Area. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Kathy is survived by her loving children, Danny (Cindy) Parks, Dana (Russ Mansfield) Parks, James (Marlene) Jewell, Devin Jewell, Brittnay (Adam) Custer, Kurtis (John) McLendon, Calvin (Rachel) Ankney, Caitlynn (Jacob) Athy, and Carrilynn (Ricky Chandley) Jewell. She also leaves behind three siblings, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2026 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Kurtis McLendon officiating.
