Katherine Kay Smith, 67, of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born on March 21, 1951 to Benton and Betty (Brown) Smith in Defiance. Katherine was a 1969 graduate of Defiance High School. She worked at Cabbage Patch Restaurant for several years.  Katherine loved and enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her nieces and nephews whom she treated like her own babes.

Katherine will be sadly missed by her four sisters; Nancy Bechtol of Defiance, Peggy Hill of Huachuca City, AZ, Sue (Mike Royal) Smith of Defiance, and Marsha (Michael) Nelson of Malinta, and brother, Steve (Dana) Smith of Defiance. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Robert "Snuffy" Smith and Gary Smith, brothers-in-law, John Hill and Rodney Bechtol, sister-in-law, Brenda Smith, and nephew, Donovan Shane Bowden. Visitation will be held  from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Celebrant Deb Miller officiating. Memorials are suggested to CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
