Obituary

Karen Clemens, 58, died peacefully in her sleep Monday morning Feb. 10, in Defiance, after a short illness originating from lung cancer. Born Karen Ann Okuley to Nelson and the late Dorothy Okuley, June 28, 1955, Karen was a loving wife, daughter, sister and aunt. She grew up near Ayersville on the family farm and was a 1973 graduate of Ayersville High School. She married Ray Clemens of Defiance on April 22, 1978, which seems such a short time ago. In their 35 years of marriage, Karen and Ray had a loving relationship that Karen relied upon for strength. Devoted to her parents, Karen cared for her mother through a long illness and visited her father often. She enjoyed planting gardens, filled her house with plants, and worked for a time at Kircher's in Defiance. Karen loved baking--her pies, cookies and peanut brittle were not to be missed. A dog lover, we will always remember Karen in her chair, snuggled under a blanket with a little dog on her lap, ready to share a cup of tea. In addition to her husband and father, Karen is survived by her siblings (and nieces/nephews): Jeannette Okuley of Ann Arbor, (Patrick, Anne, Sean); Steve Okuley of Ayersville; Susan and CP Foster of Sabinsville, Pa. (JT, Jeff, Matt, Rebecca); Mary and Rob Simons of Whitehouse (Laura, Michelle, Daniel); Angie Gerhardinger of Toledo (Jim); Cindy and Bob Huffman of Weston (Katelin, Andrew); John Okuley and Gina Langen of Columbus (Adam); and Joe Okuley and Kim Selvage of Ashley; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Wife, daughter, sister, friend, Karen is greatly missed, and lives on in our hearts. May she rest in peace. Visiting hours will be 2-8 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2015 in the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home. A vigil service will be at 8:00 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held at St. John's Catholic Church Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. Donations may be made in Karen's memory to the donor choice. Condolences may be shared at www.lawsonroessner.com.
