Obituary

Joyce L. Lichty, 88, of Defiance, passed away on  Sunday December 6, 2015 at Vancrest of Holgate. Joyce was born in Jewell, Ohio on August 9, 1927 to I. Jay and Hildred (Hammer) King. She was a 1945 graduate of Defiance High School.  On February 21, 1946 she married E. Ward Lichty and he preceded her in death on February 15, 1998. Joyce was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a former member of the VFW, American Legion, AmVets, and D.A.V. Auxilliaries all of Defiance and also a past Girl Scout Leader.  She loved to cook and was known for making delicious peanut brittle.  Joyce also used to enjoy bowling and playing Pepper and other card games.. Joyce is survived by a daughter, Ellen (Allen) Upp, and two sons, Dennis (Victoria) Lichty, and Don (Dwyn) Lichty, all of Defiance; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and sister, Sylvia Engelmann, of Ft. Wayne. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son David Lichty, brother Bud King, and great granddaughter Charlotte Lynn. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 8, 2015, 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance.  Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at 11:00 am at Riverside Cemetery, Defiance, with Pastor Timothy G Reynolds, officiating. In leu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the church or Wounded Warriors. Online condolences can be given at www.Schafferfh.com.
