Joyce Hanna (nee McDonough)
We can rejoice that we shared our lives with Joyce Hanna. Joyce died on January 11th, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Toledo, Ohio.
Born in Toledo in 1928, the daughter of the Late Beatrice and Norman H. McDonough.
Joyce attended school at St. Agnes grade school, St. Ursula
Academy and the University of Toledo. She worked at Owens Illinois and
traveled extensively, even visiting Cuba, before marrying John Hanna in
1951. Then she began her most important role as mother, grandmother,
aunt and great grandmother to her family.
Joyce and John Hanna lived in Toledo until 1978 and spent the remainder
of her life in Defiance OH when she wasn't traveling in their motor home
across the entire United State and Canada. She volunteered extensively
with various groups including Lifeline emergency program, Defiance
College Women's Commission, and the Defiance Hospital auxiliary. Joyce
and John served as greeters at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Joyce also was a Friend of the Defiance Library and a poll worker on
election days. Joyce also found time to belong to numerous bridge groups.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, John, and her brother
Michael McDonough of St. Petersburg FL. Joyce and John were so
inseparable that it became impossible to say one name without including
the other.
She and John raised Patrick (Rae Ann) Hanna, Michael Hanna, Robert
(Karen) Hanna, Mary (Clinton) White, William (Bridgett) Hanna, and James
Hanna (deceased). She was predeceased by her brother and his wife,
