Josephine A. Leach Josephine A. Leach, 93, of Defiance, passed away Monday, May 21st, 2018 at Mercy Hospital Defiance. She was born in Defiance, Ohio on July 11, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Jacob) Schlegel. She was a lifelong resident of Defiance and a lifetime member of St. John Catholic Church. Jo married Gale E. Leach on August 16, 1947. Gale died May 27, 1980. She served as the Clerk of Courts for Defiance County from 1981 - 1997. She was also a beautiful seamstress and enjoyed sewing, clothing and hats. She loved her family and grandchildren. Jo will be missed by her daughters: Laura (Thomas) Newcomb of Wilmington, N.C., Susan (Dan) Detter of Defiance, sons: Gary (Carol) Leach of Defiance, Richard (Janice) Leach of Defiance. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Josephine was preceded in death by her husband Gale, four brothers: Paul, Richard, Francis and William Schlegel, two sisters: Geneva Hale and Mary Brown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 25th, with Father Eric Mueller officiating. Visitation is Thursday 2-8 p.m. at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home 1753 S. Clinton St. Defiance. A vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
