Joseph A Brimmer, 72, of Defiance, passed away on  Monday, May 20, 2013 at Mercy Hospital of Defiance.

He was born on July 22, 1940 to the late Samuel and Dorothy (Bihn) Brimmer in Toledo, OH.   On May 12, 1962 he married Rita (Jakubowski) Brimmer.

Joseph retired as Operations Supervisor for Toledo Edison.   He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Elks, Moose and Amvets all of Defiance and Navy Seabee Veterans of America.  Joseph was commander of Meyer - Janney Island.  X-4 Toledo, OH., He was an avid woodworker, loved playing golf, gambling at casinos and was a avid Michigan Wolverine fan (GO BLUE!) He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his family.

He is survived by his wife, Rita, sons, Christopher (Amy Lynn) Brimmer of Columbus, OH, Jeffery (Marian) Brimmer of Angola, IN, daughters, Pamela (Orton) Ryan of Toledo, OH, AmyJo Brimmer of Defiance, OH, grandchildren, Natalie, Derek, Grant, Alison, Alexandria, siblings,  David (Willena) Brimmer of Spirit Lake, ID, Daniel (Maryann) Brimmer of Toledo, OH, Timothy Brimmer of Littleton, CO, Patrick Brimmer of Littleton, CO, and Francis Brimmer of AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 P.m. on Friday, May 24, 2013, at St. John Catholic Church with Father Todd Dominique officiating.  Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance.

The family suggest memorials be made to the Seabee Veterans of America Scholarship Fund in memory of Joseph A.Brimmer.
