Johnie Miller, 79, of Defiance, passed away Saturday, February 20th, 2016 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born in Hackelburg, Alabama on March 10, 1936, he was the son of the late Lenard and Lillie (Garrett) Miller.
Johnie was the husband of Barbara (Chase) Miller for 60 years. They were married Nov. 25, 1955.
He had worked at Johns Manville for six years and then at GM Central Foundry from 1965 - 1990 when he retired. He was a UAW 211 Retiree Member and a member of the Omega Lodge #0564.
Johnie was a charter member of Second Baptist Church, being baptized, at age 19 in the Maumee River, just above the Independence Dam in July 1955. In 1980 he became a charter member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He was a faithful member, an ordained deacon, trustee and in serving in any way he could doing maintenance as needed around the church until his illness 7 years ago. He fought a good fight and is now at peace with God.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Barbara,
daughters: Kay (Dave) Ankney of Ft. Wayne, Johnna 'Beth' Miller of Ft. Wayne,
son: Philip Miller of Ayersville,
sister: Sara Williams of Jasper, Alabama
brother: David Miller of Double Springs, Alabama
5 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Services will be at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, February 23rd, with Rev. Charles Alley officiating.
Visitation is Tuesday 10-12 before the services.
Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens.
