Obituary

John B. Wirick Sr. John B. Wirick Sr., 85, of Defiance, passed away Saturday, October 7th, 2017 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born in Defiance, Ohio on January 3, 1932. He was the son of the late Warren 'Bill' and Camilla G. (Sonnett) Wirick. On Oct. 22, 1955 he married Patricia H. Froelich who survives, in Defiance. John was a 1949 graduate of Defiance High School, a U.S. Marine Veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the Defiance Eagles, Elks, VFW, DAV, Defiance Fish and Game and the Holgate Avenue Association. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he was an usher for 35 years. John worked for the Defiance Dairy Co. as a door to door milkman, co-managed the Sterling Dairy Store with his wife for many years and was a rural mail carrier for the Defiance Post Office retiring in 1996. John was a fan of Ohio State, NASCAR, and enjoyed hunting. John will be missed by Pat, his wife of nearly 62 years, seven children: John (Tammy) Wirick Jr. of Defiance, Jane (Jim) Brown of Defiance, Joan (Denny) DeSota of Ney, Jeffrey (Elaine) Wirick of Sherwood, Pam (Jon) Flower of Ft. Wayne, Penny (Mike) Relyea of Defiance and Matthew (Mandra) Wirick DDS of Raleigh, NC, 16 grandchildren: Adam, Nick and Dillon Wirick, Tami (Jeremy) Backhaus and James (Amy) Brown, Travis and Justin (Kristie) DeSota, Ethan Wirick, Elyn (Marcus) Whitman and Morgan Wirick, Megan (Britt) Gerken and Derek Relyea, Camilla, Nolan, Campbell and Neal Wirick, 13 great grandchildren, two brothers: Kenneth Wirick of Defiance and Robert (Marilyn) Wirick of Pinehurst, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Nathan Wirick who died in infancy.

Visitation is Wednesday 2-8 p.m. at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 12th, with visitation from 9:30 - 10:30 at the church. Father Randy Giesige will be officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens where VFW Post # 3360 will conduct honorary military graveside rites.
