John J. Spangler John J. Spangler, 82, of Defiance, passed away Thursday, August 18th, 2011 at Mercy Hospital of Defiance. He was born in Defiance on April 22, 1929, he was the son of the late Philip and Rose (Carroll) Spangler. John worked as cafeteria supervisor, cook for the 2nd shift and clerk at G.M. Central Foundry retiring in 1989. A Korea Army veteran and a 1947 graduate of DHS. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, enjoyed golfing with his twin brother Walter, antiques, genealogy, and was a Cincinnati Reds fan, On Aug. 11, 1956 John married Mable (Baker) Spangler, who survives. John will be sadly missed by his wife Mable, daughter: Barbara (Jack) Witherell of Toledo, sons: Phil "Spanky" (Chris) Spangler of Defiance, James (friend Bridget) Spangler of Findlay. sisters: Madonna Gilgenbach of Defiance, Alberta Vogel of Defiance. twin brother: Walter (Janice) Spangler of Defiance. grandchildren; Kylie (Tim) Monhollen, Shane (Lacey) Spangler, Katie Witherell and Anneliese Spangler. Preceded in death by two brothers who died in infancy; Wilferd and James, brother in laws; Clarence Gilgenbach and Wilbur Vogel, a niece; Ann Stone and a nephew; Frederick Gilgenbach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at at St. Mary Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 22nd, with Father Randy Giesige officiating. Visitation is Sunday 2-8 at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home with a 7:00 p.m. rosary service. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens.
