John G. Mack, age 88 of Defiance, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born on November 1, 1933 to the late Leonard and Cecelia (Cussen) Mack in Delaware Township, Defiance County. John was a 1951 graduate of Defiance High School. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. On July 21, 1956 he married the love of his life, Barbara (Brown) Mack. John was a faithful member of St. John's Catholic Church. He worked as a supervisor for Diehl, Inc. for over 38 years until his retirement in 1989. In his leisure time he enjoyed golfing, bowling, and family gatherings. John will be sadly missed by his family and many good friends. John is survived by his loving soul mate, Barbara, sisters-in-law, Frances Mack of Defiance, and Alice Mack of Angola, IN, and multiple nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lyle, LaVon, and Donald Mack, his sister, Dorothy Schelling, and several nephews. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, August 29, 2022 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at St. John's Catholic Church, with Fr. David Cirata officiating.
