John L. "Jack" Bertwell, 76, of Cecil, passed away on  Thursday, January 28, 2016 at his residence. He was born on April 26, 1939 to John and Bernadine (Wirth) Bertwell in Defiance. On June 23, 1973 he married Beverly (Bunke) Bertwell, who resides in Cecil, Ohio. Jack was a member of  St. John Lutheran Church in Sherwood, Ohio.  He served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired from Johns Manville in 1999 where he worked as a supervisor. Jack was a member of AmVets #1991, VFW #3360, and the Napoleon Legion.  He enjoyed golfing and Ohio State football. Jack is survived by his loving spouse of  42 years, Beverly Bertwell of Cecil, and sons Greg  and  Scott Bertwell, both of Cecil. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Steve Bertwell, and sister, Patty Westfall. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on  Monday, February 1, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, and for one hour prior to services at the church.  AmVets Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church, Sherwood, Ohio, with Rev. Eric Moquin officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Sherwood. VFW will conduct military graveside rites. Memorials are suggested to the church.
