John R Hall, 87, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.

He was born on May 31, 1926 to Clayton and Florence M. (Morris) Hall in Defiance. On June 21, 1958, he married Ellen "Rosie" (Schall) Hall and she survives.

John graduated from Defiance High School in 1944. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII. John worked at the Defiance Post Office as a letter carrier retiring in 1989. After retiring from the post office he then went to work for Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, currently Schaffer Funeral Home . He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, NARFE #1862, AARP, Postal Union #470, and VFW Post 3360..

John is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Rosie, daughter, Beth (John) Curtzwiler of Defiance, sons, Todd (Deb) Hall of Defiance, Mark (Dawn) Hall of Defiance, grandchildren, Staci (Brian) Menzie of Indianapolis, IN, Sarah (Mike) Overmier of Archbold, Kyle Nester of Defiance, Kathryn Hall of Defiance, Kirstie (Shaun) Mack of Defiance, Dalton Hall of Defiance, and great grandchildren, Kyan Ankney and Kane Overmier.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Norma Jean Rehs, 3 brothers, Robert & Mahlon Hall and one brother in infancy.

Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance.

F uneral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2013, at the funeral home with Rev. Michael Donnally officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memory Gardens. Military graveside rites will be accorded by VFW Post 3360.

The family suggest memorials be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center or to RNR of the Defiance Senior Center.
