John D. Disheaux, age 76 of Elkhart, Indiana, formerly of Defiance, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 in Elkhart, Indiana surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Defiance, Ohio on September 21, 1949 and was a 1968 graduate of Defiance High School. John was a member of Defiance AmVets #1991 and Defiance Eagles #372. He worked at Defiance Precision Products for 42 years until his retirement, and was a dedicated volunteer for South Richland Fire Department. In his leisure time he enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He loved his dogs and taking them for long walks. John was a huge fan of the Michigan Wolverines, Detroit sports, and NASCAR. John is survived by his children, Michelle (Matt) Hahn of Coldwater, MI, Dawn Disheaux, and Shane Disheaux, six grandchildren; Beau Branham, Emily Brown, Shae Disheaux, Camden Disheaux, Landon Azzara, and Gianna Disheaux, and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters, Jacqueline Johnston, Kay (Don) Kraber, Inez Disheaux, Debbie Disheaux, and Tanya (Dudley) Clark, and his brother, Wayne (Amy) Murray and many nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren. John will be greatly missed by his family, many good friends, and his dog "Mavis". He was preceded in death by his grandparents who raised him, Roy and Gladys Disheaux, parents Dale and Maralee-Joann Disheaux, brother Dale Disheaux, wife, Sara "Sue" Disheaux, wife Patricia Disheaux, his great-grandparents, his best friend and cousin, Bobby Lang, and his faithful and best dog, "Tucker". Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 pm at the funeral home, with Rev. Max Begley officiating. John will be laid to rest at Riverview Memory Gardens at a later date. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society.
