John E. Davenport, age 88 of Defiance, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Kingsbury Place in Defiance, Ohio. He was born on August 23, 1935 to the late Donald and Mary (Murray) Davenport in Delta, Ohio. John was a 1954 graduate of Delta High School. He proudly served his country as a Veteran of The U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. On November 9, 1957 he married Eileen Parker who preceded him in death on June 1, 2017. John was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He worked at Dinner Bell and Defiance Stamping until his retirement. John took great pride in his work and loved spending time with his family. In his leisure time he enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was a great man and will be truly missed by his family and friends. John is survived by his children; Brian (Colleen Dempsey) Davenport, Lori (Jeff Nailor) Greear, all of Defiance, and Lisa (Brian Hanrahan) Davenport of LaQuinta, CA. He also leaves behind four grandchildren; Chelsea (Mike) Clarke, Emily (Joseph) Richmond, Margaid Hanrahan and Flynn Hanrahan, and one great-grandson, Barrett Richmond.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Eileen Davenport, and his sister, Sharon Demond. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home, with Pastor Crystal Ankney officiating. A Committal Service will follow at Riverside Cemetery, with graveside military honors conducted by VFW #3360. Memorials are suggested to ELARA Hospice.
