Jody Ann Shirey, age 57 of Defiance, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022 at her home in Defiance, Ohio. Jody lost her battle with cancer quickly after diagnosis. She was born in Hicksville, Ohio on August 16, 1964 to the late Junior and Dolores (Hartman) Bassett. Jody was a 1982 graduate of Fairview High School. On November 1, 2003 she married Chad Shirey, who survives. Jody was a faithful member of St. John Catholic Church. She worked in accounts payable for Fort Defiance Construction, Ney Oil, and most recently a Firm Administrator for Steyer and Company. She enjoyed flower gardening, traveling on mini vacations, and attending sporting events. Jody was a wonderful wife, mother, and extremely supportive aunt who loved attending their activities. She treasured her time spent with her family. Jody will be sadly missed by her loving husband Chad Shirey of Defiance, her children, Clay Shirey of Defiance and Bailey (Trenton) Secoy of Lima, OH, her sisters, Deb (Gary) Vollmer of Hicksville, OH and Lisa (Michael) Wilson of Archbold, OH, her brother, Chad (Kim) Bassett of Bryan, OH, sister-in-law, Stacy (Mike) Adams, and her nieces and nephews; Kendra Vollmer, Austin and Alexa Wilson, Emilee, Landon, Luke, and Noah Bassett, and Liv and Gena Adams. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. John's Catholic Church, with Fr. Dave Cirata officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or St. John's Catholic Church.
