Joann B. Wichman Joann B. Wichman, 85, of Defiance, passed away Sunday, May 25th, 2014 at her home being lovingly cared for by her daughters with guidance from CHP of Defiance. She was born in Defiance on May 11, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Goldie (Hanenkrath) Stork. She loved to cook and bake for family and friends, hosting many family gatherings, even as a young wife and mother of three small children. All the while owning and operating a small convenience store/one pump gas station, that also served food and had a walk up window for soft serve ice cream. Joan loved flower gardening, sewing, fine crocheting, playing cards, collecting shells on the beach in Englewood, Florida, attending NASCAR races in Daytona for many years in the late 70's through the early 90's. Even through the summer months family and friends would come to Joann and Fred's for a swim, cookouts and lots of laughter. She was also member of Zion Lutheran Church, a life member of the VFW Auxiliary, AMVETS, Eagles and the Moose Auxiliaries. She will be sadly missed by daughters: Mary Jo (Terry) Calvin of Defiance, Cheryl (James) Smith of Defiance, a son: Phil (Janet) Wichman of Vero Beach, Florida. three grandchildren; Travis (Edith) Wichman, Nichole Wichman and Kellie (Gene) Cole and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, of 64 years, Fred "Fritz" Wichman who died Sept. 25, 2012. She was also preceded in death by four sisters; Minnie Liska, Marvel Skiver, Doris Pease and Ruth Aden, 4 brothers; Blaine, Shirley, Cliff and Gilbert Stork. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday May 29, at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Reynolds officiating. Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at Lawson-Roessner. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery In lieu of gifts, suggested memorials are to the CHP Defiance Hospice Center. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.lawsonroessner.com.
