Joan  Snyder, 88, former Defiance resident passed away, Tuesday, July 2, 2013 in the Teresian House, Albany, New York.  She had been a resident there for the past eight months.                              .

She was born November 5, 1924 in Xenia, Ohio and was the daughter of Ross and Emzie Matthews (nee Long).

On January 29, 1944 she married Ray M. Snyder and he preceded her in death on May 23, 2005.

Joan is survived by a son, Ross (Pamela) Snyder of Schenectady, NY, a daughter Rae Ann Aldenderfer of North Lauderdale, Fla., three grandchildren; Ross M (Melissa) Snyder II, Sarah (Stan) Horaczek, Penny Aldenderfer, two great grandchildren; Lucy and Ian and a sister Frances Pickering of Jamestown, Ohio.

She was a 1942 graduate of Xenia Central High School and moved to Defiance in 1967. Joan was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Defiance and worked for many years as a deputy clerk for the Defiance County Municipal Court retiring in 1990. She and Ray enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Maumee Valley Squares.

Graveside service will be Monday, July 8, 2013 in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance at 10:00AM with Rev. Clarence Dinnen officiating.
