Joan Schindler, 81, of Continental, passed away on Thursday morning, February 21, 2019 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. She was born on September 26, 1937 to the late Barney and Ethel (Gillespie) Castle in Scott County, Virginia. In 1962 she married Paul J. Schindler, who preceded her in death in 2003. Joan was a faithful member of  St. John Catholic Church in Continental. She worked for several years in the kitchen at Leisure Oaks in Defiance. In her leisure time she enjoyed quilt making, sewing, vegetable and flower gardening, and canning. Joan will be sadly missed by her four children; Paul (Mindy Rex) Schindler, Jr. of Sherwood, Stanley (Crissy) Schindler of Continental, Marty (Sara) Schindler of Continental, and Mary (Chris) McClure of Paulding. She was very proud of her children and their accomplishments. Joan also leaves behind ten grandchildren whom she loved dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Schindler,Sr., brothers, Kermit and Ronald Castle, and sister, Peggy Hoop. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Monday, February 25, 2019 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on  Tuesday, February 26th at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Deacon Joe Heeter officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens.
