Jerry J. Andrews, 94, of Defiance, passed away on February 7, 2015 at the Laurels' of Defiance.
He was born on October 24, 1920 to Jerry and Nora (Grant) Andrews in Paulding County, OH. On June 30, 1951 he married the love of his life Patricia Hendricks who preceded him in death on July 14, 2014.
Jerry loved his family and is survived by daughters, Michelle (Wesley) Speed of Birmingham, AL, and Mary Beth (William) Dunn of Archbold, OH, granddaughters, Mary Jeanne (Alan) McRee, Elaine (Jeff) Burns, Jacquelyn Dunn, and Emma Dunn, as well as 5 great grandchildren, a brother, Bill (Betty) Andrews of Defiance, and a sister, Annabelle (Paul) Roth of Holgate.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and sisters, Mildred Bolley, Thesel Dickman, and Catherine Hill.
Jerry was a member of the Defiance VFW Post 3360, and American Legion as well as being a life member of the Elks, Eagles, and past rotary member. He was a proud Army veteran of WW II entering in 1942 and was a in Patton's 3rd Armored Division, 95th Infantry serving in France, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. Jerry was the recipient of the Purple Heart he received during combat in the Battle of Metz. Jerry began his career at Bolley's in the early 1950s and became co-owner with his brother Bill and was president and general manager in charge of sales, retiring in 1987.
The family will always remember the man who would do anything for others, never met a stranger, and was the life of the party.
Visitation will be held at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, Ohio on Tuesday, February 10th from 11am until 1 pm.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 10th at the Schaffer Funeral Home at 1 pm with Brent Roth officiating.
Burial will take place in Riverview Memory Gardens where members of the Defiance VFW Post 3360 will accord military honors.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Defiance VFW Post 3360 .
