Jeanine H. Stevens, 89, of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital. She was born on November 15, 1932 to Duane and Luella (Krause) Peters in Henry County, Ohio. On August 26, 1955 she married Robert Stevens, who preceded her in death on December 19, 2016.
Jeanine was a faithful member of Ayersville United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir. She earned her Associates Degree and worked as a Lab Technician at Defiance Regional Medical Center for several years until her retirement in 2010. She was a member of Defiance Area YMCA. She loved to travel both domestically and internationally. Her favorite destinations include Houghton Lake, Michigan, Florida Keys, Mackinaw Bridge, China, and Nova Scotia. She enjoyed bird watching, astronomy, and having her grandchildren join her when she traveled. Jeanine was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, and will be sadly missed by her daughter, Michele Stevens of Defiance, daughter-in-law Kim Stevens, brother-in-law Richard Baldwin, sister-in-law Marie Peters, and stepsister-in-law Beth Bachman. She adored her five grandchildren; Lindsey (Byron) Bevard, Weston Stevens, Brandon Stevens, Brittany (Jesse) Hamilton, and Randi (Landen Holifield) Rios, and nine great-grandchildren who were so dear to her heart; Bryson, Kyersten, Rylee, Lexi, Taia, Jayce, Raelynn, Brixton and Stella. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Doug Stevens, great-grandson Haden Bevard, brother Hal Peters, sister Shirley Baldwin, and stepbrother Doug Bachman. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Due to CDC guidelines, if you are not fully vaccinated a mask is required to enter the funeral home, and our lounge area will remain closed. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, January 3, 2022 at 11:00 am at Ayersville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Maurice Dunn officiating. One hour of visitation will be held before the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Riverview Memory Gardens. Memorials are suggested to Ayersville United Methodist Church Youth Group.
