Obituary

Jean E. Lightle-Jackman On Thursday, December 20, 2018, Jean Lightle-Jackman passed from this earth. She was born September 18, 1936, to the late James E. and Audrey (Shamel) McCauley in Lancaster, Ohio. Much of her childhood was spent in Lancaster, Athens, and Canton, Ohio. She moved to London, Ohio in 4th grade and graduated 8th grade from St. Patrick's Catholic School. she was a 1954 graduate of London High School. In 1960, she married Gerald R. (Jerry) Lightle and moved to Defiance, Ohio. Jean and Jerry raised five children. In 1996, Jerry went to his eternal home. She remarried Robert J. Jackman in 1997, who survives. Jean served as executive director of the Defiance county Easter Seal Society for five years. She also directed the Defiance office of the Ability Center of Grater Toledo. She volunteered as board member of Easter Seals (now D.A.S.H.), and was an active member (past president) of the Quadco Rehabilitation Center. Jean was long-time member of St. Mary Catholic Church volunteering at the Laurels Nursing Home (20 years), the Catholic Food Pantry (board member), Altar and Rosary Society (member and past president), Prayer Chain, and Noodle Club. At St. Mary School, she tutored reading and taught public speaking. Other community activities include volunteering with the Defiance Regional Medical Center Auxiliary (past president), assisting at the information desk at Defiance Regional Medical Center, coordinating Project Share, establishing a Simply Speaking Toastmasters chapter in Defiance, tutoring reading at Anthony Wayne School, and supporting Church Women United. She leaves behind her husband, Robert, and children: James Lightle of St. Mary's, Ohio: John (Judy) Lightle of Plano, Texas; Jeffrey (Pamela) Lightle of Defiance; Carol Anne (Mark) Standish of Exeter, New Hampshire; and Hieromonk Silouan (Jay Lightle) of Canones, New Mexico. Anne (Don) Swift, her sister, of Erie, Pennsylvania also survives. Grandchildren are: Matthew and Sarah Lightle, and Emily and John Standish. Visitation will be at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home Sunday, December 23, from 2-8 p.m. A Rosary service will be at 7:00 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Food Pantry at St. Mary Catholic Church.
