Janis R. Bliss-Hiler, age 78 of Defiance, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family on Friday, February 16, 2024. She was born on April 11, 1945 in Napoleon, Ohio to Jack and Ruth (Jennings) Bliss. Janis was a 1963 graduate of McClure Damascus High School. She married Norman A. Hiler, Sr. on November 2, 1991, who survives. Janis worked at RCA Harris Corp. and retired from H & R Block. She loved her grandchildren and cheering them on at all their events. Janis loved rooting for The Ohio State Buckeyes. Those who knew her know she loved Avon and getting pampered at the spa! Janis was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be incredibly missed by her family and friends.

Janis is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Norman Hiler, Sr. of Defiance, and her children, Troy (Jody) Wise of McComb, OH, Chad (Heidi) Wise of Bluffton, OH, Connie (Damon) Nickells of Blakeslee, OH, and Norm "Tony" (Michelle) Hiler, Jr. of Pioneer, OH. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren; Wynter (Mark) Wise of Columbus Grove, Erica (Andy) Birchmeier of Ottawa, Trevor (Rachelle) Roberts of Findlay, Allison (Dakota) Wise, Carli Wise, and Jersey Wise, all of Bluffton, Austin (Ashley) Nickells of Montpelier, Dylan (McKenna) Nickells of Ft. Wayne, IN, Madison Nickells of Montpelier, Abigail (Cody) Hiler of Edon, Noah Hiler of West Unity, Sasha (Dustin) Sensabaugh of Antwerp, Scarlette (Randall) Slattman of Antwerp, Sabryna (Michael) Allen of Paulding, and Logan (Gabe) Slattman of Napoleon, 25 great-grandchildren, her sister Mary Lou Bliss of Napoleon, and nephew Craig Meyer of Napoleon. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Kenny, and nephew Andy Mahnke. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at the funeral home, with Pastor Rick Stiver officiating. Janis will be laid to rest at Brunersburg Cemetery.
