Janice J. Spangler, 85, Defiance, passed away Friday, December 4, 2015, at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio. She was born in Defiance on October 5, 1930, the daughter of the late Alfred and Agnes (Steinberger) Schlembach. Janice's greatness passion was service. Service for others, service for family and service to her faith. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Janice was a graduate of the St. Vincent School of Nursing Class of 1951 and went on to work as an industrial nurse for Owens-Illinois and then at Leisure Oaks Nursing home (now Brookview Health Care Center). She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities. On October 5, 1963, Janice married Walter Spangler of Defiance. Janice will be sadly missed by her; daughter, Ellen Spangler of Defiance; sons, William Spangler of Defiance, Gerald (Paige) Spangler of Kettering, Ohio and David (Margaret) Spangler of Holgate, Ohio; Brother, Robert Schlembach of Toledo; grandchildren, Anne-Marie (Nathan) Miller, Michael Spangler, Zachary Spangler, T. Nathan Spangler, Nicholas Spangler, Correena Spangler, Kathryne Spangler, Cuyler Spangler, Kailyn Spangler and great grandchildren, Brooklyn Miller, Gavin Miller and Addison Miller. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Schlembach; brothers-in law, John Spangler, Clarence Gilgenbach, and Wilbur Vogel; a niece, Ann Stone and two nephews, Frederick Gilgenbach and Daniel Schlembach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Randy Giesige officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home. There will be a scripture service 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will also be from 10:00-10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at Riverview Memory Gardens Cemetery.
