James Richard Crowell, 85, of Defiance, Ohio, went home to his Lord and Savior on May 15, 2015. He was born December 1, 1929 in Paulding, Ohio to Richard and Elizabeth (Hyman) Crowell. He was married to Patricia Kersker, who preceded him in death. They are survived by their children Richard (Monica) Crowell, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Cathleen (Steven) Keller, Coldwater, Michigan, Kimberly (George) Moss, Defiance, Ohio, James Scott (Zulena) Crowell, Defiance, Ohio, and Amy Crowell-Ball, Fort Wayne, Indiana; twelve grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister Judith (Kenny) Robinson, Paulding, Ohio. He was later married to Judith Roberts Smith, who also preceded him in death, as well as a granddaughter, Tara Crowell.
Jim began his teaching and coaching career in Paulding, Ohio, then continued in Bellefontaine, Ohio. In 1963, he moved to Defiance and was a teacher, coach, and guidance counselor at Defiance High School for 15 years. He taught in Boyne Falls, Michigan later in his career, then worked for Quadco Rehabilitation Center until his retirement in 2005. Jim was a member of First Church of God, Defiance, Ohio.
Visitation for Jim will be Monday, May 18, 2015 from 2-8 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, 529 Jefferson Ave., Defiance, Ohio. The celebration service of Jim's life will be Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 11:00 am at First Church of God, 561 Carter Rd, Defiance, Ohio. A family burial service will take place at Live Oak Cemetery, Paulding, Ohio later that same day. The family requests donations in honor of Jim be made to the Summit Youth Building Fund, First Church of God, Defiance, Ohio or to the Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance, Ohio.
