James P. Bodenbender, 83, of Oakwood, passed away on Sunday, November  13, 2016 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance.

He was born on August 7, 1933 to James Earl and Muriel (Karnes) Bodenbender in Defiance, Ohio.

James was a member of  American Legion in Defiance, and Moose in Napoleon. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and sitting out by his pond.

James will be greatly missed by his sons, Jim (Deborah) Bodenbender of Johns Creek, Georgia,  Michael (Janet) Bodenbender of Napoleon, Todd  (Kelly) Bodenbender of Liberty Center, and Terry (Teresa) Bodenbender of  Put-In-Bay, Ohio, daughter, Cheryl (Gregory) Bodenbender-Beck of Napoleon,  17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and sister, Jackie Beverly of Ney, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Kathy Bodenbender-Rutter, one brother, and four sisters.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, Ohio. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home on Thursday, November 17, 2016, with  Rev. Kyle Kleeberger and Rev. Chad Roper officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, with graveside military honors by VFW Post #3360.
