James E. Ankney, 88, of Defiance, passed away peacefully in his sleep
Monday, May 9, 2016 at his residence, The Kingsbury House.
Jim was born on a farm in Paulding County on September 23, 1927 to the late
Elsworth "Jim" and Coletta (Burkmeyer) Ankney.
Jim retired from Johns- Manville after 25 years of service as a welder. Jim
enjoyed his work as he was a self-taught man of his trade of which he was
very proud. In his younger years, Jim worked on the railroad and the family
farm. Jim was baptized in the Lutheran faith as a child and lived his
personal faith. Jim was a member of the armed services serving 3 years in
the US Army. Some of Jim's favorite hobbies was working on puzzles,
watching television westerns such as the Rifleman and Bonanza. Jim had a
yen for travel and was able to travel across the United States for many
years with his special friend, JoeAnn Foor.
Survivors include his 2 daughters, Shirley and Sally. Jim 's sisters were
Virginia, Violet and Maxine and 2 brothers, Forest and Maynard.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and 2 sons, Thomas and Tony.
Service will be held at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on
Wednesday, May 11 with Rev Donald Luhring officiating. Visitation is
Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to services.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
A special thank you to Dr. Obri and staff for their dedication in assisting
Jim with his health care. Also, a thank you goes to all the staff at The
Kingsbury House for their untiring devotion to Jim and ensuring his last
home was a happy place for Jim.
