James "Jim" A. Batt James "Jim" A. Batt, 71, of Oakwood, Oh , passed away Wednesday, May 7th, 2014 in his home. Jim was born in Defiance, Ohio on June 13, 1942, he was the son of the late Al and Helen (Justinger) Batt. On November 12, 1966 he married Bonnie (Strable) Batt who died February 26, 2013. Jim was an Army veteran and served overseas in Korea. He had worked as a heavy equipment operator for Baker Schindler Contracting, Miller Brothers and Web Brothers. He was an avid deer hunter, farmer and enjoyed working on equipment and vehicles. Jim was a life member of VFW Post #3360, Emerald-Auglaize Fox Club, Operators Union 18 and St. Mary's Junction Catholic Church. Surviving are daughter: Belinda (Kent) Laney of Defiance son: Jeremy "J.J." (Katie) Batt of Oakwood sisters: Patricia Walter of Defiance, Kathleen Boyd of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Mary (Stan) Fitzenrider-Cox of Defiance. brothers: Eugene (Marge) Batt of Defiance, Dennis (Shirley) Batt of Hoisington, Kansas, Fred Batt of Defiance and 4 grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, daughter Nicole "Nicki" Batt, a sister Carolyn Leonard, brothers; Victor, Paul, Jerome, Ronald, Harold and Thomas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Catholic Church, Defiance, Oh. at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 10th, with Father John Stites officiating. Friends are invited to call Friday 2-8 p.m. and an hour before services Saturday at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sherman Cemetery where VFW Post # 3360 will conduct honorary military rites. Suggested memorials are to CHP Paulding Hospice.
