Irene F. Steffel, 94, of Defiance, passed away Sunday morning, April 2, 2017 at the CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born November 25, 1922, in Adams Township, Defiance County, to the late Albert and Agnes (Willitzer) Steffel. Irene graduated from Jewell High School in 1941 and attended St. Michael's Catholic School. She retired from Miller Brothers Construction Company of Archbold. She had also worked for John T. Rohrs and Defiance Hospital. She was a lifetime member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and a member of St. Michael's Ridge Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of Defiance Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Surviving are nieces: Susan (Norman) Walker of Defiance, Nancy Browns of Lakewood, Illinois, nephew Larry (Sharon) Steffel of Indiana. Great Nieces: Ashley (Kurt) Vollmar of Defiance, Sara Prokup of Chicago, Sarah Sears of Indiana, Great Nephews: Ryan (Kirsten Walker of Burke, Va., Christopher (Michelle) Prokup of Carpentersville, Illinois, Alex (Danielle) Prokup of Columbus, OH Great-great nieces and nephews: Evelyn and Barett Walker, Allison and Morgan Vollmar, Henry Prokup, Tessa, Annika and Brianna Sears. Preceded in death by her parents, a sister Kathleen Bittinger, brothers: Clement, Ambrose, Albert Jr., Lawrence Steffel Sr., a niece Cindy Steffel. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2017 in the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home. Officiating will be Father Robert Kill. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, April 6 in the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Suggested Memorials are to St. Michael's Church or Hospice.
