Inez "Betty" Elizabeth Kern, 94, of Defiance, passed away on  August 9, 2015 at the Laurels of Defiance in Defiance, Ohio. She was born on December 7, 1920 to Thomas and Leona (Gillispie) Boyd in Defiance, OH. On March 24, 1945 she married Virgil Kern who preceded her in death on September 14, 1978. Betty was a member of Faith Baptist Church and a graduate of the class of 1938 at Defiance High School. Betty is survived by her loving son, Tom (Carol) Kern of Defiance, OH, daughter, Terry (Mark) Yenser of Continental, OH, 10 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by father, Thomas Boyd, mother, Leona Boyd, her husband, Virgil J. Kern, brother, Jim Boyd, and sister-in-law, Virginia  Boyd, Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2015, from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at 11:00 am at the Schaffer Funeral  Home, Defiance, Ohio, with Rev. Brent Gibson, officiating.
