Obituary

Howard H. Shock, 90, of Defiance, OH  passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.

He was born on September 12, 1922 to Henry and Bertha (Rettig) Shock in Holgate, OH. He married Rita R. Hoeffel  July 4, 1948 and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2003. Howard was a member of St. John United Church of Christ.

Howard graduated from Jewell High School. He was a life member of VFW Post #3360, a founding member of the Jewell American Legion post 635, a member of AMVETS Post 1991.  He proudly served in the United States Army from 1943 -1945 during WWII, attaining the rank of Technician Fifth Grade serving the 76th Infantry Division, Reconnaissance Mechanized troops in the European Theater.  Howard worked 30 years as Head of Maintenance for the Northeastern Local Schools and was a devoted Tinora Rams fan.

Green, OH; Gerald Shock of Wilmington, OH; John (Brenda) Shock of
Defiance, OH; Mary (Robert) Kuesel of Malinta, OH; and Joseph Shock of
Spanway, WA; siblings, Ruth Shock of Defiance, OH; Carl Shock of
Pahrump, NV; Lois Oberhaus of Defiance, OH; and Bernard Shock of Defiance,
OH; grandchildren, Nathan (Samantha) Shock & Matthew (Ashleigh) Shock; Jeffrey & Eric Sullivan;
Courtney Shock; and Nicholas  Manion; step-grandchildren, Sondra Miller, Sarah Miller, and Andrea Wensink;
great-grandchildren Kaden and Kohen Shock, Kayleigh and Caden Erman, and 5 step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, Rita R. Shock, brother, Harold Shock, and sisters, Ethel Panning & Mildred Shock.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 10, 2012 @ 11:00 am at St. John United Church of Christ with Rev. Robert Jencks officiating.   Family will receive friends on Sunday,  December 9 from 2 - 8 pm at the Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home and from 10:00 - 11:00 am at the church on Monday.

Burial will be in Independence Cemetery where military honors will be provided by VFW Post 3360.
