Hortencia  Garcia, 86, of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at the Toledo Hospital. Hortencia was born in 1929 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Isabella Fernandez and raised by Guadalupe and Martin Guajardo. On March 5, 1946 she married Estevan Garcia Sr., who passed away on November 30, 2000.  She is survived by her children: Mary Torrez of Portage, Ohio, Santos (Rey) Villarreal of Defiance, Estevan Garcia, Jr. of Defiance, Raynaldo (Rosie) Garcia of Defiance, Andrew Garcia of Northport, Florida, her sisters; Julia Beltran, Olivia Nino, Guadelupe Guajardo, Alicia Esquierdo, all of Holland, Michigan, her brothers; Gregorio Guajardo of Holland, Michigan, Joe and Martin Guajardo of Defiance, 18 Grandchildren, and 41 Great-grandchildren. She was a stay at home mother, whose passion in life was her entire family, telling stories, eating, laughter, and the joy she could bring to everyone she knew. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Estevan Garcia, Sr., daughter Hope Garcia, son Adam Garcia, two sisters, two brothers, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at the funeral home, with Paul Valdez officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, or the American Heart Association.
