Hilda Ruth "Susie" Wade, 94 , of Defiance, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Glenn Park of Defiance, where she had resided for the past seven years. She was born on May 22, 1923 to Herschell and Florence (Shoaf) Hartsook in Columbus, Ohio. In 1944 she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from The Ohio State University. On March 12, 1944 she married Dr. Donald J. Wade, who resides in Defiance.

Susie worked for several years as a registered nurse, and she was a veterinary assistant at Central Kentucky Stallion Station.  She was an active member of Hardinsburg United Methodist Church, and was a member of Breckenridge Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Together, during their marriage of 73 years, Susie and Donald raised three wonderful children, Donald (Diana) Wade, Jr. of Gilbert, AZ, Barbara (David) Rodgers of Chalfont, PA, and Deborah Wade of Greenville, NC. She also leaves behind  two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Hartsook. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Defiance, with Pastor Lee Genter officiating.
