Herbert L."Herb" Mack Jr., age 79 of Ney, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born on July 16, 1943 to the late Herbert and Ruth (Sieg) Mack in Defiance, Ohio. Herb was a 1961 graduate of Defiance High School and attended International Business College. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and Ohio National Guard for ten years, obtaining the rank of Sergeant. On February 17, 2010 he married Rose (Seibert) Mack, who survives. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church. Herb worked at The Crescent-News, Johns Manville, and General Motors for 28 years until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of NRA, Defiance Fish and Game, and Defiance Local UAW #211. Herb served for 20 years on the Ney Fire Department. Herb will be sadly missed by his loving wife Rose, his children; Susie (Rick) Sheldon of Hastings, FL, Holly Mack-Martin of Tupelo, MS, and Jason Mack, and his  stepchildren; Rick (Erica) Bauer, Anne (Errick) Retcher, Scott (Sheena) Bauer, and Susan (Justin) Sheets, all of Ney, OH. He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, his sisters, Diana Ward, Pam (Lalo) Sierra, and Connie Dotson, and his brother, Chris Mack. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 18, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton St.) in Defiance. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at St. Isidore Catholic Church, with Fr. Melwin Dsouza officiating. Burial will follow the service at Ney Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Ney Fire Department.
