Helene M. Nolan Helene Marie Nolan, 87, of Defiance, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Brookview Healthcare Center. She was born October 18, 1928 to the late John E. Nolan Sr. and Lucy (Hammersmith) Nolan. She was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Defiance. Ms Nolan was a graduate of International Business College in Ft. Wayne. She was employed at a young age at Nolan's Grocery in Defiance. Subsequent jobs were at the Defiance Grocery Company, Defiance Hospital, and Defiance Urology Clinic. She was an active member of the Trees of Life, Historic Homes of Defiance, Holgate Avenue Association and many other ministries. Her hobbies included gardening, photography, crafting and bowling. Helene is survived by nephews and nieces: Nolan (Glenna) Mekus of Swanton, John (Katie) Mekus of Bowling Green,Nancy Mayer of Plano, Texas, Peggy Hansen of St. Paul, Minnesota, John Nolan III, of Sylvania, Maureen Nolan of Hilton Head, South Carolina,Susan Johnston of Farmington Hills, Michigan, Michael Nolan, Kathleen (Rex) Eutsler, Larry (Loraine) McCann, Cindy McCann, and Jim (Carol) McCann of Defiance. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Raymond Nolan and John Nolan Jr., sisters Catherine Vaughan, Lucille Mekus and Chressence McCann and three nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, in St. John Catholic Church. Officiating will be Father Eric Mueller. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home. A scripture service will be at 7:00 p.m. Suggested memorials are to St. John Catholic Church.
