Helene I. Clemens
Helene Isabelle Clemens, 92, of Defiance passed away Sunday morning, November 3, 2013 at the Laurels of Defiance.
She was born September 24, 1921 in Defiance, Ohio to the late Wilbur McCann and Kathryn (Breckler) McCann. She married Robert S. Clemens on June 26, 1948, who preceded her in death April 12, 1995.
After graduating from Defiance High School, she attended Riverside School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio. Immediately following graduation from nursing school Helene joined the U.S. Army where she proudly served in England during World War II and the D-Day invasion. She was discharged as a First Lieutenant.
Helene is survived by two sons and a daughter: Richard (Theresa) Clemens of Lima, Ohio; Rebecca Clemens of Defiance and Raymond (Karen) Clemens of Defiance, 4 grandchildren: Jeremy (Natalie) Clemens, Jason (Kelly) Clemens, Jacob (Christina) Clemens, and Jayna Clemens, 4 great grandchildren: Ethan Clemens, Lena Clemens, Colin Clemens and Townsend Clemens.
Also surviving are 2 bothers and 2 sisters: Patrick McCann and Richard McCann, both of Defiance, Wilma Workoetter and Lucille (Richard) Meyers both of Bryan and numerous nieces and nephews.
Helene worked for 42 years at Defiance Hospital, first in the obstetrics unit and later as a nursing supervisor. She was a life member of VFW Post #3360. One of her fondest memories was her 'Honor Flight' to Washington DC.
Visitation will be 2-8 Wednesday, November 6 and a hour before services Thursday at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Todd Dominique officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens with VFW Post #3360 conducting graveside rites.
Suggested memorials are to the American Heart Association or the Red Cross.
